FAQs

How can therapy help me?

There is a myth that there needs to be a big issue for you to need counselling.  However, therapy can provide you with a safe and confidential space to explore and address a wide range of issues, including life transitions, career questions, anxiety or worries, depression, relationships, grief, stress management, self-esteem, and personal growth. It offers you an opportunity to gain insight, develop coping skills, and make positive changes in your life whether your concerns seem big or small.  We all have unique experiences and histories that impact us in the present, therapy can help to understand your patterns and guide you toward health and well-being.  Many clients find it helpful simply having a separate space and different perspective on their challenges.

What can I expect during sessions?

Therapy sessions typically involve open and honest conversations between you and your therapist. The therapist will listen attentively, provide support, and ask relevant questions to help you gain clarity and understanding.

In my sessions, there is a focus on processing emotional experiences and ensuring you are equipped with strategies to manage and regulate emotions.  I aim to ensure that my approach is tailored to you and your unique way of being in the world.  This can include going over new strategies and techniques to manage your concerns effectively, and I may provide resources and handouts when suitable.  Other sessions may be more focused on reflecting and exploring your experiences in a collaborative way.

How do I choose the right therapist?

Choosing the right therapist is an important decision!  It's essential to find someone with whom you feel comfortable and can establish a strong relationship.  Consider factors such as the therapist's qualifications, experience, specialization, therapeutic approach, and personal fit. You can review my profile to learn more about my background and areas of expertise.  A first session is also a great opportunity to get a sense of how I work and see if it is a good fit, if either of us decide it isn't, I will provide referrals to other practitioners I trust.

How long does therapy take?

The duration of therapy varies depending on individual circumstances. Some people may find a resolution for their concerns in a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy.   Generally, clients see shifts or changes in the range of 6 - 20 sessions.  The frequency of appointments will depend on your unique needs, goals, and schedule.  I typically see people weekly or biweekly to begin with, and then reduce as we see change.  The therapist will work collaboratively with you to set goals and regular reviews will ensure that therapy remains focused and effective.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, therapy is confidential. Confidentiality is a crucial aspect of therapy, and therapists are bound by ethical and legal obligations to maintain it. However, there are some limits to confidentiality. Therapists are required to disclose information if there is a risk of harm to themselves or others, or if they receive a court order to release information. Your therapist will discuss the limits of confidentiality with you during the initial sessions.

How much does therapy cost?

Therapy fees can vary depending on several factors, including the therapist's qualifications, experience, and the length of each session.  You may visit the booking website to view the fees for each session type that I offer, which range from $160 for an individual sessions to $220 for extended family/couples sessions.  I am currently full for sliding scale/student rate spots.

Do you accept insurance?

We recommend checking with your insurance provider to determine if they cover therapy services provided by Registered Clinical Counsellors.  We can provide you with the necessary documentation, such as receipts and invoices, to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.  It is best to confirm coverage prior to booking as any fees incurred are the responsibility of the client.  Please see the separate page for ICBC related cases.

Psychedelic therapies are an innovative therapeutic approaches that combine the use of carefully administered psychedelic substances with professional psychological support.  This synergistic process aims to facilitate profound psychological insights, personal growth, and healing.  Research evidence suggests that psychedelics and plant medicines like psilocybin, MDMA, Ketamine, and LSD can create neuroplasticity, enabling individuals to explore and address deep-seated emotional issues, anxiety, depression, and PTSD.  Studies have shown promising results in clinical trials, indicating the potential of these therapies to catalyze transformative experiences and long-lasting positive outcomes. Our private practice specializes in providing preparation and psychedelic integration sessions for those embarking on a psychedelic-assisted journey, ensuring a safe, intentional, and therapeutic exploration of altered states of consciousness.
